Tennis is a great way to have fun, improve your child's co-ordination and fitness as well as make new friends. South Ribble Tennis and Fitness Centre runs tennis lessons led by professional coaches for children age 3-16, working to The LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) Junior Programme.

Tennis course timetable

| LTA Blue Stage | 3-4 | Sat, Sun | This introduction to tennis focuses on building strong foundations. Through fun, active games, children will develop balance, agility and hand-eye co-ordination while exploring the basics of the sport. It's not about winning - its about learning new skills and having a blast. |
| LTA Red Stage 1 | 5+ | Mon, Sat, Sun | Get ready to see rallies, volleys and overarm serves. At this stage, children will improve speed, co-ordination and reaction time. The basic fundamentals of all strokes are covered. Relaxed, friendly competition is introduced to help develop confidence and teamwork. |
| LTA Red Stage 2 | 7+ | Sat, Sun | This is for players that have progressed through Red Stage 1 and are ready to further enhance their skills. Children can work in partners and successfully rally together without the support of a coach. |
| LTA Orange Stage 1 | 8+ | Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat, Sun | Moving onto a bigger court (3/4 of a full court) with transitional/lower compression ball, children will fine tune their technique on all strokes. Enabling them to work in pairs, build rallies and their sending/receiving skills. |
| LTA Green Stage 1 | 10+ | Mon, Tue, Thur, Sat | Stepping up to a full size court, players will refine their skills and techniques while learning to handle more competitive situations. These sessions will help them grow their game and master the mental side of sports. |
| LTA Green Stage 2 | 10+ | Sat | A progression from Green Stage 1, children will have more advanced skills and will have formed good technique and tactical awareness. |
| LTA Yellow Stage 1 | 12+ | Thurs | This is the introduction stage for all new to the game players, basic strokes and techniques will be covered. With full-size balls on regulation courts, just like the pros. Here players continue exploring different styles of play. They'll focus on developing a game that's uniquely theirs while building confidence and resilience. |
| LTA Yellow Stage 2 | 12+ | Thurs, Fri, Sat | This is a progression from Yellow 1, taking your skills that you have already learned you will now start to concentrate on more advanced styles of play. Transferring these skills and techniques into a more tactical and competitive environment. |
| LTA Yellow Stage 3 | 12+ | Wed, Fri, Sat | This class is a progression from Yellow 2, the level is more intermediate/advanced. Technical skills will now be embedded and advanced coaching techniques will be taught along with drills, tactical awareness & fitness |
| Adult Tennis 1 | 18+ | Mon | Beginner/Improver class for players that have never played before or have progressed in this class to an improver level. Players will be matched with those of a similar level. |
| Adult Tennis 2 | 18+ | Mon | Intermediate/advanced class for players that are looking to fine tune their game and play competitively in some singles and doubles matchplay. Technique and tactics will be covered within drills and points play. |
Please note, on the booking page you can use the left hand filter column, click ‘weekly lessons’ then the option to choose a level under ‘tennis lessons’ appears. This then displays all classes at the required level. Alternatively you can search by days of the week.
About our lessons
- There are classes throughout the week, with times to suit everyone
- Lessons run all year (including school holidays) and only pause over Christmas. Direct Debits remain the same in December, as the two week break is taken into account and payments spread over the 12 months. Block paying customers will have sessions paused automatically.
1:1 Tennis lessons for juniors and adults
South Ribble Tennis and Fitness Centre also runs 1:1 tennis tuition for both children and adults. These are led by professional coaches, which are selected for your individual needs and aims.
These sessions are subject to a court fee of £21.15 plus the cost of coaching ranges from £17-£25 per hour.
